5 Hair Styles That Don’t Ruin Your Hair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

Now, we all know that giving up heat completely is unrealistic.  It’s fun to feel sleek with straight hair, or to dress up and rock some gentle curls. However, we should still keep in mind that there are plenty of other ways to style hair, that are much healthier and take a whole lot less time in the morning.  Give yourself just five extra minutes for any of these styles, and you’ll be all set with a super cute (and damage-free) look!

1.  The Dutch Braid

At first glance, this Dutch Braid might appear too intimidating to try to recreate by yourself, but bear with me.  A Dutch Braid is really just an upside-down French Braid.  Instead of crossing the pieces over one another, you cross the pieces under one another.  Continue to pull strands of hair in from both sides as you go down the braid, and voila! Dutch Braid.

2.  A Simple Twist

This up-do might very well be as simple as it gets.  There are only two steps!  First, separate the two pieces you want to pin back.  Then twist those pieces away from your face and insert bobby pins to keep them in place. Magic.

3.  Half Up Top Knot

Another easy option for keeping your hair out of face is the half up top knot.  This style is extremely trendy, especially for casual/fun environments like music festivals or late nights out.  All you need to do is separate the top section of your hair and put it in a bun—the same that you would if you were to be putting all of your hair in a top bun.

4.  The Side Fishtail Braid

A fishtail braid is a much more unique style than a traditional braid.  Again, like the Dutch Braid, this style looks a lot more intimidating to recreate than it really is.  The first step is to gather your hair in a ponytail.  Next, split all of your hair into two sections.  Begin crossing pieces of hair from the two sections to opposite sides.  Continue overlapping pieces as you work your way down the braid, and then secure with an elastic.

5.  Surf Spray

Lastly, if all of these styles are still too complicated for you, you can try a heatless shaping product, like Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Spray.  This spray is induced with salt, and is said to give a perfect beach-waves texture.  It is extremely easy to use and just has to be sprayed on damp or dry hair!  Check it out on Bumble & Bumble’s website or at retailers such as Sephora.
