5 Habits to Start The New Semester Strong at Bucknell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

Welcome back, Bucknellians! With winter break behind us, it is time to look to a new semester. The multitude of fun activities, resources, and new facilities on campus will make it easy to start out this semester feeling strong as ever. Just follow these tips from Her Campus Bucknell!

1. Break A Sweat

Staying healthy and fit while juggling schoolwork, club meetings, and various other commitments can seem like a daunting task. However, with the pristine athletic facilities at Bucknell come endless opportunities to get your heart rate up and pumping. Offering group fitness classes, a variety of fitness machines, and club sports to get involved in, the KLARC has it all. Making a commitment to give your mind a break and your body a workout during your busy, daily routine is essential to starting the new semester strong. So, what are you waiting for? 2.  Welcome Back, Carnegie!

Tired of your old, boring study spot in the library? Well, say goodbye to that cubicle and hello to the newly refurbished Carnegie Building! As Bucknell’s first library in the early 1900s, Carnegie has just been restored to its former glory. The beautiful sky-lit atrium that has been uncovered in the construction of the Carnegie Building offers pristine and elegant light to the new study and student lounge space. So grab a chair and bring a friend – the time has come to welcome this historic building back to campus.

3. Get Involved

With a new semester comes new opportunities to get involved. Whether you’re interested in volunteering at a local elementary school or writing for a campus publication, there are endless possibilities for getting involved in your community. Finding a niche on campus to suit your passions and interests can help you hone in on a future career and introduce you to new students on campus. A great way to see the array of local community service opportunities and connect with other student organizations is the Involvement & Community Service Fair taking place on Wednesday, January 27th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the ELC.

4. Adjust Your Class Schedule

Be sure that you are satisfied with your classes this semester. With the add/drop period at Bucknell comes the opportunity to ensure that the classes you chose are right for you. If you feel as though a class is not what you expected it to be, it is important to talk with your professor and ultimately decide whether the class is going to be a good fit. Adjusting your class schedule in the beginning of the semester is the key to starting out strong.

5. Campus Community

Having a support system around you is one of the most important parts of getting back into the groove at the start of a new semester. While it is important to focus on schoolwork and other commitments, it is also essential for your happiness that you spend quality time with friends and feel a part of the campus community. A great way to do so while socializing with your peers is through winter sporting events. With basketball season comes a time to show some orange and blue school spirit with fellow Bucknellians.
