Why Home is My New Favorite Place

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

I don’t have to think twice before saying that my new favorite place is my home. Before Thanksgiving, I would always find a way to escape having to go back to the suburbs because I thought it was the most boring place to be, with all the two-story houses and forests filled with trees. Also, I live locally and so going back home for Thanksgiving wasn’t really a big deal for me, compared to those who might live across the country or world. Yet, these four days made me feel a different way. From being able to watch movies on a bigger screen to waking up without any alarms, I loved the feeling of being back home. Here are a few reasons why home is my new favorite place to be:

1. Relaxing

Coming back home after you had all your midterms is a great way to leave all your stress and anxiety back on campus. And you can recuperate as much as you can before it’s time to go back. This also means you can sleep in without having five different alarms ringing in the background.

2. Seeing old friends

Apart from Thanksgiving and winter break, It’s not often that all my high school friends are back from their respective schools. It’s always nice to have someone to hang out with and catch each other up when you’re sick and tired of seeing your college friends (just kidding that’s a lie, I love you guys!)

3. Sleeping in your own bed

Nothing says comfort like being back in your own room and finally getting a chance to sleep in your bed. I’m so emotionally attached to my bed that I have to have a moment with it before I go back to campus. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

4. Taking walks

I’m more of a city person, so I like being in the midst of tall buildings and honking cars, but I also love the feeling of walking alone for a while and not having to be around lots of people. It really helps clear your mind and also gives you a great chance to appreciate the little things in life!

5. Homemade food

Need I say more? After not having access to a kitchen for a while, I forgot what it feels like to be spontaneously baking at 2 AM. Moreover, you get to go to all your favorite restaurants that aren’t near you anymore while at university. Not to mention all the great homemade food from Thanksgiving.

6. Of course, family

It’s hard not to be around the people you love during the holidays. Even if they might annoy you to the point that you want to bang your head against the wall. But in the end, you know you’re going to miss them when you go back. Besides family comes first right?

No matter how much I miss being in the comfort of my own home, I love staying in the city and being back on the grind. By the time Thanksgiving break was over, I was super excited to see my friends and get back to hustle mode. Besides, there are only three more weeks till I get to be back in my favorite place again!
