Graduation is right around the corner and I could not be more excited for it.  The past four years of school have been awesome; I’ve met great people and had amazing experiences. However, now it’s time to move onto the next chapter in my life.  But not before a quick pit stop for summer vacay. I will be bumming the post-grad life at home on the beach, so don’t try to call me because I’ll be basking in the glory (and the sun) of never having to do another homework assignment again.  Here are some of the best things I’ll be doing as my first steps into adulthood.

1. Sleeping.

The last time I think I had a good night’s sleep was when I was still in the womb. College has seriously messed up my sleeping schedule because some nights I won’t go to bed, but other days I sleep in until 1 pm.  I can’t wait to be home in my bed all cuddled up in the blankets not worrying about any projects that are due. I can already feel the peacefulness.

2. Hanging out with home friends.

I love my school friends just as much as my home friends, but there is something very cathartic about being with home friends.  They’re a sense of comfort and safety because I’ve known them since elementary school. Home wouldn’t be the same without them.

3. No work.

Of course, I’ll have a job, but not needing to write an eight-page paper by Thursday or read 100 pages of a boring book will be the best part of my summer.  I’ve rid myself of responsibility and now my main focus is finding a job that I want to become my career. I will have a degree, so I might as well use it.

4. Food.

There is nothing better than a home-cooked meal.  In the summer my family loves to grill, so I can’t wait to go home and have a really good meal because the GSU and Dominos are no longer cutting it for me.  Going out to restaurants is also great, especially when your parents pay for the meal. Fine dining without having to pay fine dining prices? Sign me up.

5. The beach.

Spending the day at the beach is one of the best experiences a person can have.  Closing your eyes and listening to the sound of the crashing waves while the sun beams down on your skin is beyond relaxing.  Hearing the sound of seagulls and soft summer music in the background player on your speaker is what I live for. Although being in the ocean kind of scares me because, you know, jaws, I love feeling the cool water against my skin in between frantically looking around for sharks and standing in thigh-high water.

6. Backyard parties/ bar crawls.

Living in a beach town has proven to be the best place to live on earth.  We have low-key parties in our backyards when we just want to listen to good music and grill some burgers and hotdogs while drinking beer.  My town is also filled with bars and every night there is something different going on at each of them. Having our rotation of bars has proven very effective in the past and I can’t wait to use the excuse of graduating for my party behavior this summer.

7. Hanging out with my dog.

The one thing I’m most excited about doing post-grad is hanging out with my dog.  I’ve been away from him all semester and daily FaceTiming sessions just aren’t cutting it anymore.  I can’t wait to squeeze his cute face and give him all of the cuddles and kisses I have. Sorry for being too affectionate, but I love my dog.

Although I’m sad college is over and I’m entering the workforce, I’m excited to see what my future holds.  College has prepared me for this moment and I am going to try my hardest to appreciate and really take it all in.  This summer is going to be one I will never forget. I’ll be lost and confused because I don’t have a job lined up, but I know I’m going to find one and kick a** at it.  For those a little fearful of graduating, you shouldn’t be because this is going to be the most exciting time of your life.
