Now that the sunshine is finally out in Boston, it’s the perfect time to get outside with friends! What better way to welcome the spring weather than by having a picnic? There are so many beautiful grassy spots around the city to lay down a blanket and relax. Gather your friends, pack your favorite snacks and sweet treats, and head to these spots for the perfect spring picnic!

Boston Public Garden

The Boston Public Garden is the most classic option on this list. Located downtown at the Arlington T stop, the BPG is stunning in the spring, with its iconic pond at the center. If you have time, take a ride on the Swan Boats across the water. For the ideal picnic spread, swing by the Trader Joe’s in Back Bay. And if you’re craving dessert, ice cream trucks usually line the garden’s perimeter.

BU Beach

If you want to stay on campus, BU Beach is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a picnic with friends. Head to the GSU for a variety of food options that are perfect for packing up and enjoying outside. Bonus: if you close your eyes, the sound of cars rushing by on Storrow Drive almost sounds like ocean waves!

The Esplanade

If you’re looking to get off campus but stay close, the Esplanade is a top-tier picnic destination. Stretching three miles from the BU Bridge to the Museum of Science, the Esplanade offers stunning views of the Charles River. There are tons of grassy spots to choose from, but I recommend setting up on one of the docks overlooking the water. It’s especially beautiful in the evening—perfect for catching the sunset.

Harvard Yard

Ditch your BU gear and pretend to be a Harvard student for the day with a picnic in the iconic Harvard Yard! Though technically just outside Boston, it’s worth the short trip. To get there, hop on the Red Line at Park Street and get off at the Harvard stop. For a sweet treat, pick up cannolis from the legendary Mike’s Pastry in Harvard Square.

No matter where you choose to lay your blanket, Boston is full of beautiful spots to soak up the sun and enjoy great food with friends. So grab your snacks, round up your people, and make the most of the city’s outdoor charm!
