Sundays with Margo: On Resilience and Persistence

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

A couple of weeks ago, I read an article in the March 2017 issue of Real Simple Magazine regarding the concept of resilience. Of course from reading this piece, which you can read here, I was instantly intrigued by the topic. Sometimes we get so caught up with completing tasks, crossing them off our lists, and moving on to the next one that we forget to actually enjoy the experience of learning and growth. Frustrations can perspire from having to take a step back and rework a task or project. Impatience can also come about from the desire of instant gratification from a mere homework assignment to the results of an exam or future job position. I’ve recently realized that being resilient is empowering. It shows hard work, dedication, and passion. These are the qualities that embody positive growth no matter the outcome. Resilience shines through and when it comes to persistence — it always pays off. In the moment, you might not be able to see the impact if you don’t get what you’re hoping for, but in the long run, you obtain a strong, confident, yet humbled character.

Work hard, accept the criticism, and understand that everything happens for a reason. Eventually, all your resilience and hard work will pay off and you’ll feel even prouder and far more satisfied knowing that your personal journey to get where you wanted to be was hard work.

Until Next Sunday,
