Five Exciting New Music Releases to Get You Through Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Hey Her Campus! I hope you’re all staying safe and well despite these crazy stressful times. It goes without saying that COVID-19 has disrupted so much of our lives already, and although social distancing is absolutely the best method to prevent this from getting any worse, it’s been so hard on people whose careers rely on social contact. So many musicians have postponed shows and tours to keep everyone safe, and although many are broadcasting live shows on platforms such as Instagram in order to connect with fans, it’s just not the same as performing in person.

For so many fans, concerts are an important way to relieve stress and let go. It’s really frustrating that in this hyper-stressful time, their best outlets are unavailable. However, that doesn’t mean the music world has just been put on pause. So many artists are releasing new music right now, and it’s important that rather than focusing on the bad right now, we focus on the good. Music can be such a great pick-me-up when you’re bored at home social distancing, so here are some artists releasing brand new bops to help you make it through these trying times.

5 Seconds of Summer

5SOS recently released their fourth album, and despite its title being CALM, my reaction has been far from that. There are so many bops on this one—”Wildflower” is my personal favorite. Give it a listen when you need something to hype you up after being stuck at home all day.

Conan Gray

Conan Gray is a recently discovered favorite for me, and he just released an album entitled Kid Krow. This one is a little more vibey and melancholy, so give it a listen when social distancing is getting you down.

 All Time Low

Following an apparent trend in pop-punk revival is All Time Low’s long-awaited new album, Wake Up, Sunshine. The band has been on a short break since releasing their last album in the summer of 2017, but this reunion was absolutely worth the wait. The album features pop artists such as blackbear and The Band Camino, but it is also reminiscent of the guitar-heavy pop-punk style of their early music. If you’re feeling nostalgic for your middle school pop-punk phase, check this one out.

Niall Horan

I know we’re all still recovering from the release of Fine Line, but that doesn’t mean we can forget about the incredible music being released by other former members of One Direction. Niall Horan just released his new album Heartbreak Weather, and I’m really loving it. The album is meant to tell a story that you can follow chronologically through each song, so it’s definitely better to listen in order. This could be a good background for studying or cleaning out your room–whenever you have enough time to appreciate the entire thing in one go.

Hot Chelle Rae

The entirety of 2020 already feels a bit like a fever dream, but still…a Hot Chelle Rae reunion? I never could’ve called that one. Six years after the release of their last album, these early 2010’s superstars are back with four new singles. This has been a wild year, and I can’t believe that after almost a decade, I’m still bopping to the same weird pop band. I’m so excited to see where this reunion takes them.

So there ya go! Hopefully, these suggestions help distract you from these super stressful times. As frustrating and scary as this pandemic has been, sometimes dancing around your room to a new Hot Chelle Rae song is enough to make it tolerable. Stay safe, Her Campus. XO!
