We cannot believe that it is already April! Spring is finally here! It’s beginning to warm up and we’re itching to spend more time outside – which is fitting, because April is actually Earth Month! The best way to celebrate our planet is to protect it, and there are tons of ways you can take part in being environmentally conscious.

Here are five super easy ways to be sustainable, not just in the month of April, but all year!

1. Give Up Plastic Water Bottles

Nearly 80% of plastic water bottles do not get recycled and contribute to overall waste. Ditch the store bought bottles and buy yourself a reusable water bottle instead! You can easily turn tap water into filtered, drinkable water by using a Brita or a similar filtering pitcher.

2. Green Your Transportation

Help reduce overall pollution and save your gas money by walking, biking, or taking public transportation whenever you can. If it is necessary to take a car, try to carpool with friends and become a more sustainable commuter. When it comes to long distance travel, take advantage of trains or busses instead of driving yourself!

3. Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!

We know you’ve heard about the importance of recycling for years, but we cannot stress how beneficial it is to the overall environment! If you do purchase any bottle or cans, make sure you dispose of them properly. Recycling is an easy way to reduce waste of plastic and aluminum, and to be a more environmentally conscious person.

4. Be Laundry Conscious

We already know you avoid doing laundry at all costs, but reducing the amount of loads you do can actually help save tons of water and electricity. Try doing larger loads of laundry every 2-3 weeks, rather than a smaller weekly load. Bonus points if you hang your clothes to dry rather than using the dryer!

5. Treat Yo’self to Some Reusable Shopping Bags

We already know you love to shop, but be a more green-friendly shopper with reusable bags. They’re not just for soccer moms anymore! You can purchase these bags at most grocery stores, but be sure to check out your local dollar store, too. Don’t just utilize them at the grocery store either! Keep them in your car so you have them handy whenever you’re shopping.

We hope this article inspired you to take small steps into becoming more sustainable! Her Campus Bryant wishes everyone a Happy Earth Month!
