Her Campus: What is Mr. Bryant?

Amanda Ouellette: Mr. Bryant is an annual male beauty pageant where students can compete on behalf of their preferred charities. The show consists of an opening number, talent portion, formal wear, and more! This year’s competing charities are New Urban Arts in Providence, the Human Rights Initiative, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Oceana, the Jimmy V Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!

HC: What is the theme of this year’s show?

AO: This year’s theme is seasons/weather. That sounds weird, I know, but the inspiration was based off of Tom Holland’s lip sync battle and the song “It’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls. We’re really excited about it!

HC: What can the audience expect?

AO: The audience can expect lots of laughs and a sense of accomplishment because all proceeds go to the winner’s charity of choice. All ticket proceeds will be included in the fundraising total. Also, this year’s show is in a new location (Janikies instead of the MAC) so it should have more of a production feel which I believe the audience will enjoy!

HC: Why did you decide to be Mr. Bryant director?

AO: I decided to run for the executive board position that involved Mr. Bryant because I wanted to help make Mr. Bryant a known event on campus again and to bring new ideas to the event that had been put on in the past. I felt this would be a cool opportunity to provide a unique experience for the Bryant community.

HC: What is your favorite thing about Bryant?

AO: This one is so difficult because I love a lot of things about Bryant, but I’d probably have to say the people! My four years here would not have been the same without the amazing students and staff that helped me along the way!

HC: If you could have the ability to read minds or be invisible, which one would you choose and why?

AO: Hm, that’s a hard one but probably be invisible. I think it would be cool to just disappear for an hour or two and get some work done or to just take a break.

HC: What is your favorite season?

AO: My favorite season definitely has to be fall/autumn. The temperature is always just right and I love fall activities like fairs and apple picking.

HC: What is your favorite restaurant around Bryant?

AO: Definitely Rocco’s! Nothing is better than their wing special on Thursdays!

HC: What are your plans after graduation?

AO: I will begin working full time in July at Liberty Mutual as an associate accountant! It is in their Boston office so I am excited to live in a big city for the first time and take advantage of as many opportunities as I possibly can!

HC: Is there anything else you would like us to know?

AO: We are really excited with how Mr. Bryant is coming together and the changes we have made from years past and really hope to see lots of students there!
