October is the best month of the year for us girls for many reasons. We finally get to unpack our boots, indulge in pumpkin spice coffee, enjoy the beauty of the turning of the leaves, and immerse ourselves in everything Halloween. But aside from sipping delectable drinks and visiting spooky attractions with friends, we can’t ignore that October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Before you over look it, here are some facts about Breast Cancer:

·        1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their life time

·        Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women

·        Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women

Don’t freak out! There are healthy habits that can reduce your risk of getting breast cancer, and they’ll help you be a happier person all around. Limit your alcohol intake, quit smoking, control your weight, and exercise. Never skip your yearly physicals and give yourself a “breast self-exam” every month. It’s really not a lot to ask and can help you immensely in the long run.

If you’re looking for a way to support breast cancer patients/survivors please click this link to sign up for Making Strides of Providence, taking place on October 18th! This is a great event during the best month of the year to get outside and take a walk. Also, you’ll have the chance to walk beside some of the strongest women on the planet, cancer survivors. Even if you can’t make the event you can still donate here.
