9 Things to Do If You’re Lonely on V-Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

It is that time of year again, collegiettes! Her Campus is not going to let you settle for yet another sad and lonely holiday. Here is our guide to turn that frown upside down this Valentine’s Day.

1. Squad up with all of your single friends and treat yo’selves

Go out to dinner, go see a movie, perhaps have a few drinks? You will feel less lonely when you are all suffering together.

2. Have a Rom-Com movie marathon

Although some movies (maybe The Notebook in particular) may make you feel worse than when you started off the night, however it is better to get out your feelings of frustration and loneliness through crying over Ryan Gosling versus any other alternative

3. Send yourself flowers and chocolates

Alright, this is quite cheesy. But hey, at least YOU love YOU, right? If you can’t get attention from anyone else, why not just give yourself the attention you’ve been lacking?

4. Facetime your fellow lonely friends from back home

If you seem to be surrounded by a mass of lovebirds at school, facetime some old friends from home! It gives you time to catch up, gossip, and maybe stuff your faces with Valentine’s Day candy we all know you bought.

5. On that note, buy Valentine’s Day candy

Especially the day after, when it is on sale. For some strange reason, chocolate always tastes better this time of year.

6. Call mom, dad, and/or your siblings

At least there are always people you can fall back for constant reminders that you are loved and do not need anyone else’s reassurance except from ourselves and our families.

7. Go on a nature walk

The last thing you may want to do on this dreaded holiday is physical activity, but going on a walk and surrounding yourself with the beautiful outdoors will give you the well-needed break from the overwhelming amount of Valentine’s day inspired Instagrams and Snapchats.

8. Go to a cute coffee shop

Have no shame in dressing up in a little cute outfit that you may have worn if you actually had a Valentine this year. Sit at a table, whip out your laptop or maybe just a good book. Who knows, maybe a fellow coffee shop go-er will catch your eye and be your Valentine next year!

9. Catch up on homework

This may be the last resort. But if you think about it, it is a great opportunity to catch up on work (even though classes are still going on this day), but all you have to worry about is your next assignment that night, not about what outfit you are planning on wearing or making reservations to a fancy restaurant to eat. Think of the positives!
