Meet Danielle Walls!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brenau chapter.

Danielle Walls is a student here at Brenau, and is an active part of the Student Government Association where she currently serves as Campus Relations Officer on Exec Board. Next year, she will serve as Secretary of Exec. We managed to pull her from her busy life (and from her hammock) to tell us a little bit about herself.

SS: Tell me a little bit about yourself. Where are you from, how many siblings do you have, and such?

DW: I am from a small town in South Georgia called Cordele. I have two brothers and one friend who might as well be my brother. He all but lives at our house.

SS: What is your major?

DW: I am a Health Science (Pre-Occupational Therapy) major, so after this semester, I will be staying at Brenau for six more years to get my Masters and Doctorate in Occupational Therapy.

SS: What’s your favorite movie and why?

DW: My favorite movie is definitely Hello Dolly, because I am in love with Barbara Streisand. I have been listening to her newest Christmas CD since Christmas Day.

SS: What made you choose Brenau as your college, and why did you choose this career path?

DW: I actually did not want to attend Brenau because I hated the idea of going to school with a bunch of women. I absolutely love the all-women factor now. When I was 15, doctors discovered a brain tumor on my 3-year-old cousin’s cerebellum. I watched him go from a vibrant child to being paralyzed on his right side. Watching him work with his occupational therapist really shaped what I wanted to do with my life. As I watched Russ struggle down the hall to his hospital room with his occupational therapist cheering him on from behind, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Since Brenau has such a great OT program, I knew that this is where I belonged, because kids like Russ deserve the absolute best.

SS: How is Russ doing nowadays?

DW: Russ is great! You would never know that he has a brain tumor. He is eight years old and plays baseball just like any boy his age.

SS: That’s great to hear! What are some of your favorite things to do in your free time?

DW: I have two different sides to me. I love being super lazy and eating ice cream and watching movies all day, but I also love running, hiking, and just being outside, especially if my ENO is involved!

SS: What activities and organizations are you a part of this year?

DW: I am a Brenau Scholar, the President of the Alpha Epsilon chapter of Delta Delta Delta, the SGA Campus Relations Officer, a freshman hall resident’s assistant, a Women’s Leadership Certificate participant, a Student Ambassador, and a writer for the Odyssey. I also teach Sunday School and sing in the choir at my church, Chicopee Baptist.

SS: So since this school year is almost over, do you have any advice for rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors?

DW: I have had a lot of health problems this semester as a result of stress, so I would say to everyone, take it slow. I know we are here for school, but we can’t do well in out classes if we aren’t taking care of ourselves. Our bodies come first. We can retake a class, but we can’t replace a broken body.

SS: Hear, hear! Thank you, Danielle, for talking with us!

DW: Not a problem, thank you!
