Global Citizen Continues to Change the World One Festival at a Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brenau chapter.

Every year, the Global Citizen Festival lets the attendee earn their tickets by using the money to give back and help end some of the world’s biggest problems. The Global Citizen Foundation was able to make over $1.9 billion in just over a week’s time. Until the Festival, which was on September 24th, they advocated refugee education and put pressure on politicians to increase funding. By doing this, the Global Citizen community grew bigger than ever. This foundation isn’t just all talk and no action; they strive to truly make the world a better place. This year, the focus was on sanitation, women’s economic empowerment, and education – issues that are continuing to prevail in today’s society. Women’s equality has been a battle around the world for as long as we can all remember, and Global Citizen wants to help us get closer to the extinction of inequality. Focusing on bringing the entire world together instead of just a few countries shows that that we all must work together in order to see change. Because of their active giving and big names in the world, the festival had a huge performance line up. One of the most notable performers was Rihanna, who’s known for starting her own foundations and aiding families and children in need all over the world since she was 18 years old. Her performance at the festival was show stopping as always! Kendrick Lamar, Usher, Demi Lovato, Major Lazer, and many more were the special guests at the huge event. Each guest was recognized for their selflessness in helping the world for a change. Kendrick Lamar is among one of the top ranking entertainers in the world just for helping humanity thrive. We all know him for the humble rapper that he is—which you might say is pretty rare these days. Usher has been around for so long but has always shared his money with the world by being a spokesperson for numerous issues. Global Citizen continues to make more money for global causes as they keep attracting big names and big foundations.
