Ladies, fall is right around the corner, and that means it’s time to push those summer clothes to the back of your closet and go SHOPPING! Start making space for your knit sweaters and cardigans, leather jackets, knee high boots, and other fall/winter clothing. As the need for warmer clothing and one of the Tea Room’s hot beverages becomes more prevalent, here are some of the fall fashion trends you can expect to see around campus:

1. Denim on Denim.

Jeans are a classic and timeless trend and pairing denim bottoms with denim tops has become a huge fashion trend. It’s been spotted on this year’s runways of New York Fashion Week fall/winter collections, and even celebs like Rihanna and Charlize Theron have caught denim on denim fever. Not only is this trend timeless, but it can be easily accessorized with anything. Throw on a beanie, a cowl, or knee high boots and you’re ready to hit the scene with a fabulous fall outfit.

2. Dresses and Cardigans

For some, the saddest thing about transitioning from summer to fall is the loss of those lightweight flirty dresses that were a part of our daily summer wardrobe. Not all hope is lost! Would you believe me if I told you there is a way to rock your favorite summer dresses during the cooler months? Simple- it’s called layering. It’s no trick, but rather simply done by combining your lightweight, short or sleeveless dresses from the summer with the more heavier pieces such as a cardigan, tights or leggings, or leg warmers underneath your boots.

3. High-waisted Trousers and Long Jackets

Just recently in this year’s 2015 Paris Fashion Week for the fall/winter collections, high-waisted pants made their way down the runway. According to Jasmine Garnsworthy, a writer for StyleCaster, high-waisted pants are “the MVP of a functional [and well put together] fall wardrobe.” This is because high-waisted pants elongate the legs and slim the hips and waist. It is one of the few pieces that is versatile in being worn, not only in the office but on the weekends as well. Though long jackets and oversized coats have been trending for a year now, it’s recently been revamped into a more fitted look with streamlined silhouettes and varying in lengths from mid-thigh to below the knee. It’s almost as if this outfit was taken right off a store mannequin this is definitely a chic fall trend to follow.

4. Floral Pants and Oversized Sweaters

Regardless if you’re heading to work, class, or lounging about your day, oversized sweaters are the perfect fall fashion statement. They are incredibly comfortable, stylish, and you can pair them with anything, especially floral pants. Floral prints have transferred over to the cooler seasons, and this fall they are taking on a darker shade from black backgrounds inspired by vintage greens, deep pinks, and creams. An oversized sweater paired with dark shaded floral pants and biker inspired boots is a perfect fall trend for any outing.

5. Boyfriend Jeans

Boyfriend jeans have a relaxing aura about them as though they say, “This girl is very laid back.” Their roomy fit and laid back allure is exactly why we turn to them again and again. When paired with a solid colored button down top, a patterned scarf, and ankle boots, this ensemble makes a perfect fall outfit for a coffee or a lunch date with your girl friends.

6. Cropped sweaters and pleated skirts

For those of you who think crop tops are only for the warmer weather, news flash! Cropped sweaters are taking speed on the fall fashion trend cycle. While sleeveless midriff baring tops might best be worn and paired with summer outfits, you can indulge in your love for crop tops during the colder seasons as well. Just with shorter sweaters. When paired with a high-waisted skirt, cropped sweaters are a great way to keep it fun and chic during the fall season.

A change in seasons brings about the opportunity to expand your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to try new things, or even to be a trendsetter. One of the most important guides to putting together a great outfit is always staying true to your style aesthetics.
