None of this is sponsored in any way (but it could be @elfster 😉). I just really love this platform, and hope you do too!

Happy Holidays! The Holiday cheer is hitting the air.

There are a lot of key traditions that make this season beautiful. Decorations, social gatherings, good food and gift-giving.

I love gift-giving, and every present this season is absolutely heartwarming. But, let’s be honest, not every present is a win.

It doesn’t diminish the value and thought, but sometimes the people who know you just aren’t in sync with your present preferences. The holidays are the one time of year when you can request pretty much anything you don’t want to buy yourself. Personally, I like to use that opportunity!

This is where wishlists come in. Nowadays we don’t have to go through the Lego magazine to circle our favorite sets or write out an old-fashioned fifth-grade list.

There are multiple platforms that offer high-tech wishlists, but my personal favorite is Elfster.

I am extremely forgetful, so when holiday time comes around, and my mother calls asking what I want, I’m stuck with only crickets in my head. This is when Elfster comes in, which I use year-round.

Anytime I see something I would like, but can’t justify buying myself, I add it to one of my Elfster lists.

Elfster lets you create multiple wishlists and add gifts that you would like onto the lists to share with family and friends. It’s similar to an Amazon wishlist, but you can link (or not link) any store.

Some of my favorite Elfster Features:

  • The Mobile App — I almost use the app more than the site. It is so convenient to carry your Christmas shopping list right in your pocket.
  • The Chrome Extension — I don’t even have to leave my tab to add an item to the list.
  • Write-in Wish — No link? No problem. You can write in a wish and add whatever details you want. A title, a note, a picture, etc.
  • Mark as Purchased — Other people viewing my list can mark an item as purchased for others to see and avoid double gifting. I can’t see this on my own list, so the surprise isn’t spoiled.
  • Built-in Shopping Feature — If you have no idea what you would like, just browse the site for ideas!
  • Anonymous Q&A — You can message someone anonymously, to ask them to update the list, for a ring size, whatever you need. They can’t see who sent the message, keeping the surprise intact.
  • Secret Santa Generator — The site allows users to add other users to an exchange group, and they do all the work for you. Everyone joins and each person gets their secret person. No middle-man or accidentally drawing yourself.
  • Generator Settings — Before the drawings, you can mess with settings to personalize it to your group. For example: prevent a couple from drawing each other.

The Secret Santa generator is actually how I discovered Elfster, and I am so glad I did.

I organize my wishlists by relative price range, and then I have a “never go wrong” list with my favorite candy and such.

My mother has access to it year-round and loves the platform. Sometimes she just wants to surprise me with a pick-me-up, and it’s nice for her to know what I could use without her having to spoil the surprise and ask. It is also nice to keep track of little things I could treat myself with.

It works for birthdays, it works for holidays, and it’s just overall a very useful platform.

Yes, general traditional gifts are still nice to give and get, but if you want to gift a little more practically Elfster is the way to go. I wish everyone had an account, it really makes gift-giving in life that much simpler.
