I went shopping on Black Friday so you didn’t have to

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bradley U chapter.

Black Friday has always been a fun event for my family and I. For me, it simply means purchasing items that I can now afford in some measure. Last year, because of COVID-19, I opted out of shopping and stayed at home instead. This was mainly because there was not a vaccine out yet and I did not feel comfortable putting myself or others at risk. But this year, I was masked, vaxxed and ready to start my Black Friday Shopping.

The first store I went to was Walmart and I didn’t notice anything too great. There were no electronic deals that piqued my interest. The toy section was still quite pricey. I went to the women’s clothing section and, fortunately, there was one place where dresses were now $5 instead of $20. Aside from this one small stand filled with dresses, I didn’t notice anything that stood out. This year’s Walmart deals, in my opinion, were simply not that good. However, I discovered that many people were still there. It just wasn’t like it used to be, when people would fill their carts to the brim with TVs and other items. I also thought it was interesting that the store was not flooded with people. Walmart is usually packed on Black Friday but I had no trouble going in and out.

Ulta was my second stop and it was a lot of fun. I was able to find Morphe palettes for $10.00 rather than the usual $20-25. That was a great deal in my opinion because Morphe products last a long time and their palettes are usually very pigmented. I was also able to purchase some other items, such as the Lash Princess Curler, at a reduced price that was once again extremely affordable. Overall, Ulta did not let me down and I left with a lot of items that would have cost me much more than I spent that day. I was a bit bummed out because I did come in looking for a specific product but unfortunately it had sold out by the time that I got there. However, I did find almost everything else I needed so it wasn’t too bad.

Target was the last store I visited. I arrived at Target a little late, and by the time I got there, all of the actual good deals on candy, Christmas items, and household items had sold out or were completely gone which I sort of expected. I did visit their online store and was able to purchase $10 SONY headphones, which was a steal in my opinion. Despite the low price, the sound quality was quite impressive. Target’s online store was the most convenient way to shop for Black Friday. I couldn’t find any deals in-store, and I didn’t find the headphones there either. So I think I’ll do my shopping from home from now on, at least for Target.

In all honesty, Black Friday shopping this year was a mediocre experience. I didn’t find anything particularly noteworthy, but I was pleased with my overall shopping experience. So, if you missed it or did not have time- don’t be too concerned! Most of these stores, I believe, have much better deals throughout the year than the ones I saw on Black Friday.
