5 Creative Ways to get Exercise Outside!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.
  • Spartan Up!  In high school, my friends and I were always training for our races. Spartan races combine running, weight training, interval training, and critical thinking (funny combination, I know) together in a race. Even though your entire team will be bleeding, have bruises and scrapes from the hurdles, tire lugging, miles of running and intense monkey bars, I PROMISE that it’s super worth it.

  • Charity Miles- This awesome app easily downloads on your iPhone so you can be monitored on your run. There’s a bunch of charities to donate to on the app- and the more you run, the more the app’s sponsors donate to the selected charity! Before you know it, you’ve already run 10 miles AND help contribute to end juvenile diabetes.

  • Paddleboating- My friends and I are lucky enough to live on an island, but if not- get yourself to a mini vacation with a lake or river on a road trip! Paddleboats can be rented all over, and they only generate if the passengers in them peddle hard and fast enough. It’s like a bike and a boat mixed!

  • Field Day!- Come on, we all know how much fun it was to have the field day during elementary school, so why not recreate it now? Between baton races, tug-of-wars, and push up contests, you guys are bound to have a blast.

  • “Hot Yoga”- Everyone knows the trend where people willingly put themselves in a room about 100 degrees Fahrenheit while they do yoga. Supposedly, it burns even more calories. HOWEVER, if it’s hot outside, might as well get a similar benefit, sweat less, and be able to see the light of day in the beautiful outdoors.
