Things You Should Be Cleaning More Often

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

While it may not feel like spring, it’s about that time of the year to do a deep cleaning! When we “clean” our rooms, we usually mean moving our clothes off the floor, doing laundry, and vacuuming the floor. However, there are many surfaces and objects that we don’t clean enough. Here are some things we should be cleaning more often than we would like to admit.

Computer

You use it every day, you should clean it. We use it in class, the library, and most importantly to binge watch Netflix in bed. You can wipe it easily with a Lysol wipe and water, but be careful with what you use to clean it with as you do not want to strip your screen.

Phone

Our phones accompany us everywhere. We listen to music in the gym with it, we eat with it and it sits on the table. We call home, we text our friends, and we take it everywhere. We should be cleaning our phones much more than we would like to admit.

Light switches

Every morning, every night, and every time we leave a room, we touch the light switches. Think about the last time you cleaned your light switch. Now, go and clean it.

Doorknobs

Doorknobs are known to spread germs easily and that is because everyone touches them. We touch the door all the time and it needs to be cleaned.

Sink handles

Similar to doorknobs and light switches, we don’t clean sink handles enough. We touch the handles when our hands are dirty, clean our hands with soap, and then touch the handles again. Now, do you see why we should clean the sink handles more often?

Linens

We never clean our bed sheets, towels, pillowcases, comforters, etc. enough. We put our faces and bodies on all these fabrics and it is important to change and clean linens at least once a week.

Your water bottle

It is important to drink a lot of water, but also important to wash your water bottle everyday. When you drink water, you want it to be germ free, right?

Your laundry bag

We put our dirty clothes in our laundry bag, and most likely, use the same bag that once held our dirty close to then hold our clean clothes.

Cases

Whether it is your phone, contact, or retainer case, or something else that has a case, you should clean it. It is a bit ironic how we store things in cases to stay clean, yet we sometimes forget to clean the cases.

In college, many of us get sick a lot and it is because we may not be cleaning these commonly used surfaces and objects.

I guarantee your room will smell and feel much cleaner after a thorough cleaning!
