Stay Fit While Studying

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Free time is incredibly hard to come during this time of year. Having three exams, two papers, a problem set, and a group project all due in one week is not uncommon, and all of your responsibilities can feel overwhelming. You barely have time to sleep or hang out with your friends, so working out typically gets pushed to the back of your mind.

But it doesn’t have to! Exercising is a great stress reliever because it gives you a mental break from studying. Even if you tell your self you’re going to work in the library all day, there is only so much information your brain can handle at one time. Take a productive break and work out for an hour. You will feel refreshed, energized, and ready to take on your work because of all the endorphins you’ll get from working out.

Try one of the following ways to stay fit and still ace your finals:

Take a class at the Plex

A group class is the best motivation if you just can bring yourself to workout. Seeing everyone else excited to workout will boost your spirits and increase your stamina. I’m positive you’ll find that an hour workout class goes by so much faster than an hour on the treadmill or elliptical.

Follow a workout video

You don’t even have to go to the Plex to stay active. There are hundreds of workouts you can follow online, and you can do them right in your dorm room. Workout on your own or get your roommates together for a study break and some bonding.

Try yoga in the morning

If you know you truly won’t have any time during the day to workout, go through a series of yoga poses right when you wake up in the morning. It will put you in the right mindset to start the day, and it will help prevent back and neck pain from sitting in the library for hours.

Another aspect of staying fit is eating right, something that becomes exponentially harder when you’re stressed out. Be sure to drink 8 glasses of water a day, or more if you drink a lot of caffeine, and make time to eat a balanced meal. Food from the vending machine may be convenient, but it will leave you unfocused and tired.
