Pinterest Fun Fridays on Foster: Tie-Dye Cupcakes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

With the weather so gloomy and dark outside, I decided to bring some color into the kitchen. I’ve seen quite a few tie-dye cupcake fails while exploring the Internet, so this one was a little intimidating. Keep reading to see how it went!

The Ingredients

·      1 box of white or yellow cake mix

·      Ingredients listed on back of cake box

·      Gel color or food coloring (I used food coloring)

Making the Cupcakes

1. Mix together all of the ingredients for the cake mix.

2. Then divide the already-mixed batter into six containers–or however many colors you want.

3. Add a small dollop of gel color or food coloring and mix well. (I used 5-10 drops of food coloring)

4. Layer the batter, one color at a time making sure not to mix the colors.

5. Bake, following the directions on the cake box.

6. When done, let cool.

7. Frost

Time Spent in Kitchen: 30 minutes

This recipe was not as hard as people said it was online. One good tip is that if you use liquid food coloring rather than gel, put a little less water in the cake batter. That way when you add the food coloring, the batter won’t get too runny.
