How to Wear Spring Fashion Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

You know spring has sprung once every fashion magazine under the sun has the words “Hot For Spring” on the cover. Once you read it, you know there will be adorable new ideas for your wardrobe. A lot of the time, the runway fashions are just… not what someone would normally wear. If you want to be in style like in the magazine, but don’t want to wear what’s actually in them, look no further, because here are some great ways to wear trendy looks.

Trend One: Boxy and Cropped Jackets

BCBG Max Azria and Rebecca Minkoff

These runway jackets have too much going on at once. They’re also a little too boxy to be functional for everyday life. Instead, opt for a jacket like the bright yellow one below that will make you look cheerful on the rainiest of spring days.

Trend Two: Contrast-Collared Button-Downs

Alexander Wang, Costello Tagliapietra, Altuzarra

Button-down shirts have been reemerging as a staple. For spring, having a button-down with a different colored collar and sleeves is all the rage (but I would suggest buttoning more buttons than those models)! A bohemian-style look may work better for daily spring wear, so adding a flowy button-down with a contrast collar will be the perfect touch for a walk around campus.

Trend Three: Pastels

Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Rebecca Taylor

Pastels can be difficult to wear without looking like an Easter egg or an actual flower. These runway looks are head-to-toe pastel, which definitely isn’t doable in real life. Below, the pastel outfit is still there with the light blue, but is off-put by the white pants and gold accessories.

Trend Four: Tuxedo and Athletic Fit Striped Trousers

Costello Tagliapietra, BLK DNM

Tuxedo pants are a great way to make your legs look longer and add some pizazz to your pants. The athletic fit hasn’t worked well since… ever, though. Instead, go for a nice-fitting tuxedo pant, like these celebrities are doing below.

Next time you’re out shopping on Newbury Street, look for some of these new spring trends. Better yet, create your own versions – creativity is key to great fashion!
