Campus Comedians: NO FOMO the Podcast

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bates chapter.

HCB had a chance to sit down to talk (and laugh) with two of Bates’s funniest students. Ian and Whitney are best friends and members of the Strange Bedfellows, the on-campus improv comedy group. Recently, the hilarious pair created a podcast that allows them to talk about whatever is on their mind. They make jokes and comments about life at Bates and beyond, and also host guests to ask them “21 Questions.” Besides talking seriously about their podcast, HCB’s interview with the comedic team involved many witty gags and a lot of hilarity.

What is your podcast about? Everything that matters and more… actually, mostly stuff that really doesn’t matter.

What made you decide to design a podcast? We wanted an outlet for our humor and thoughts about life. We also wanted to challenge our comedic selves outside of doing improv.

Also, we’re young digital entrepreneurs.

What are some topics that you’ve talked about on your show? C-list celebrities, studying abroad, how to make friends, Glee…

Future topic ideas for the podcast? We’re going to interview Allie Freed about summer jobs.

Why do you have guests on your show? By interviewing someone about a specific topic, we can do a comedic bit about this topic before we talk to our guests. After interviewing them, we can use their conversation as a springboard for other bits. Also, it’s always really fun to talk to someone in a different atmosphere (as opposed to class or at a party).

Who have you interviewed so far and why? Honor Moshay, because she’s from the real LA (Los Angeles) and not she lives in a new and better LA (Lewiston-Auburn). And she’s popular.

Will Cleaves, because he’s really funny, he’s a HCB Campus Celeb, and his eyes are like the Pacific Ocean. And he’s popular.

Where do you record your show? Holmes house AKA Whitney’s bed

Who do you want to listen to your show? We’d like to reach a diverse audience so we try to talk about things that would be funny to our peers, as well as an older audience.

How will this podcast affect your futures? It’s definitely going on our resumes. It’s a good way to practice a different area of comedy and performance.

Also, we’re expecting Oprah to listen to us one day and put us on her “Favorite Things.”

Favorite part about this experience to date: Getting positive feedback is pretty awesome. It’s great to hang out with each other and think of new ideas and then getting to record them for others to hear.
