Podcasts You Need To Start Listening To

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

I only recently started listening to podcasts—I usually just listen to music on my commutes to school—but I found that podcasts are a great way to learn something new or just entertain yourself for roughly an hour and 30 minutes. The ones I listen to range from educational/informational podcasts to people just talking about pop culture and what’s going on in their lives. I promise the latter is still entertaining; sometimes you’re just in the mood to listen to two people chat about random things. So, I made a list of five podcasts that I love, and I hope you’ll love too! If you are not a podcast person, I suggest giving one of these a listen if it peaks your interest. It’s a great way to pass time and you never know what you will learn.

How I Built This

This podcast features Guy Raz, who has an array of people on his show to explain the stories behind their businesses. Some examples of the companies his podcasts cover include SoulCycle, Lyft, and Airbnb. What I find interesting about this podcast is that no matter what the company is, you can always learn from an entrepreneur or creator’s story on how they got where they are today.

Guys We F#@$!d

Heading in a slightly different direction, this podcast features Corinne Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson, who brand their show as “The Anti Slut-Shaming Podcast.” They talk about a range of things from personal to current events with a theme of sex positivity. They also have different guests on their show each week, (they recently had on Fran Drescher!) which makes for a very interesting show.

Jenna + Julien Podcast

These two happen to be YouTubers I love to watch; so, I thought I might as well listen to their podcasts too! Jenna and Julien’s podcast takes a more laid back approach, and I love it. They are so funny together, and the conversations they have are intriguing for all audiences. They also ustream during their podcasts, so listeners can interact with Jenna and Julien and be a part of the podcast themselves.

Pillow Talk

I would say this is more of an educational podcast; it focuses on sex education and features sex educator, Eileen Kelly. She has so many interesting people on her show each week, and the subjects they talk about are so different – it is hard to fit it into one category. All in all, this is a great podcast that focuses on the different ways people love each other, and how to keep a healthy mind and body in your relationships with others. It also explores topics that may be new to some and educates listeners in a clear yet entertaining way.

Tiny Meat Gang

I know, the name is weird. But these guys (also YouTubers) are some of the funniest guys I’ve ever listened to. I even went to their comedy show a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. Basically, Cody Ko and Noel Miller discuss and react to what’s going on around them. Whether it be a trending pop culture event or what happened to them that morning, they have a way of making it hilarious. There’s even a YouTube channel that posts highlights of the podcast each week, so I would check that out to see just how amazing this show is.
