Let’s Talk About Self Love

This Valentine’s I’ve decided I am ditching the cliches and focusing on one person, me! While being with a significant other is something many people look forward to on this day, it’s important to look after the most important person: yourself.

My day will hopefully start somewhat early at around 8 or 9 a.m. depending on how my body is feeling. I will take that time in the morning to do some relaxing yoga, maybe listen to a podcast, an audiobook, or some groovy songs (if you want some new songs to listen to, check out my article,  “10 Groovy, Chill, and Vibey Tunes to get you through This Week”). After morning yoga, self-love will hopefully come flooding in.

One concept I want to take away from this Valentine’s Day is the concept of loving and taking care of myself. I’m pretty sure during these past few months a lot of us haven’t taken the time to really discover and love ourselves. If anything, we’ve done the complete opposite. I say, this Valentine’s Day, we take back our lives! I encourage you to do at least three self-love tasks. Self-love doesn’t have to always be looking in a mirror and saying affirmations of love, although this is one way; it can be just going on a walk and getting your body moving. Another self-love task could be taking a spa day for yourself and trying out a new hair mask that’s been sitting under your sink for three months. Paint your nails, get full glam, and watch a movie or tv show you love.

Self-love comes in all different forms. If you are stuck about what you should do, go on the internet and look up self-love techniques or a self-love itinerary. This Valentine’s doesn’t need to be a huge event for anyone but yourself. On the other hand, if you do want to invite others into your day of self-love, do it, you can self-love together. While I would love to be cuddled up with my mans this Valentine’s Day (he lives in the UK, but that’s a story for another time), I will be taking this day to self-reflect, self-care, but most of all, self-love.
