As a frequent concert go-er, there are a few things I’ve learned over the years. There are moments before, during and even after a concert that everyone has most likely experienced at least once. So if you’re about to attend your first concert, read up and prepare yourself. Or if you’re an expert like me, then you probably know how it goes. Even though concerts can be stressful at times, I’m always one to enjoy a good concert! Here are some of my personal feelings and reactions before, during and after a concert.
1. Before the Concert:
So you’ve just found out that your favorite (or second favorite) band/artist is coming to a venue near you! So what do you do?
Obviously, you try to buy tickets for yourself and whoever else wants to come with you (AKA whoever allows you to drag along).
Now if it’s a popular musician then the ticket buying process is kicked up a notch and you are having a panic attack because those suckers are going to sell out in a couple seconds!
But once you’ve get them you feel so accomplished… but in reality you just pressed some buttons on your computer
The preparation for the concert is a whole other conversation. Whether the concert is in a week or a couple months, you’re already stressing about your outfit.
And if you don’t have anything in your wardrobe that you think will fit the “vibe” of the concert, off to the mall you go!
Finally, the day of your concert arrives.
After you’ve gotten ready — and look your best because, hey, you never know if you might get to the meet the band — you meet up with your concert going buddies.
But before you leave, you’ve triple checked that you have all of your life essentials for any possible emergency. Phone, money, tickets? Check.
On your way there you’re either blasting all of their songs or discussing which songs you think they’ll play — or both…
And after a century, you’ve finally arrived at the venue:
2. Arriving at the Venue:
“Wait, is this the line?”
And if you’re lucky, sometimes you make friends in line! — obviously bonding over your mutual love for the artist/band.
Even when the line inches forward a millimeter you think you’re going places.
But once you reach the doors, you make a run for it. You forget everything and everyone.
You may see your life flash before your eyes – you’re literally in the middle of a stampede.
Then there are two scenarios — is this a small venue where you stand and need to fight your way to the front?
Or is it a large venue where you’re so disoriented and need to ask twenty different ushers to show you where your seats are? (At a Beyoncé concert my cousin and me were sitting in the wrong seats for the whole opening act — but luckily our actual seats were closer)
Now the waiting begins…. for both the opening act and the actual performer
While you wait, you’re Instagraming and adding photos to your SnapChat, but then you realize your phone is about to die and you need it to take photos and videos later, so you put your phone away and patiently wait.
Finally, the opening act comes out and you’re jamming. But nothing compares to when the real act comes on
Once the musician comes on, the audience is feeling it, you literally feel like you can conquer the world.
When your favorite song comes on though, it’s a game changer. There’s no going back….
And eventually the last song comes on and you’re just like “wait …. but I just got here?”
Then everyone starts flooding towards the exit, and people start shoving body parts in your face.
Then you suddenly realize you’re dying of thirst and feel like you just ran 3 marathons and crossed the Sahara Desert.
3. After the Concert:
So you’ve escaped the masses of people and chugged 2 water bottles, and now you can’t stop ranting and raving about how amazing the concert was.
And you go back on your phone to listen to all the songs even though you just heard them. Besides feeling beyond tired, you are elated and cannot wait for another concert!
