Good or Bad: Student’s Thoughts on The New Registration System

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

December is here and that means finals season, winter break and my favorite part: spring course registration!

But wait, the registration system has changed?! It’s true. Back in October, emails were sent out to students saying that beginning registration season for spring 2016, there will be a new system in place via “Eagle Service” on the myAU portal, as opposed to the tab on the portal that said “Course Registration”. This new system came as a shock to many students, especially the ones who have been here longer than a semester and have gotten used to the old system of registration. Whether they like it or not, it seems this new system is here to stay.

So what do American University students think about this new system for registration? Here are some opinions of second and third year students, and even a perspective from a freshman:

“I was wary of a new registration system because I didn’t know how difficult it was going to be. However, I was very pleased with my experience. I was able to plan my schedule in advance and see if the classes were filling up before my registration date without having to constantly flip back to the schedule of classes page. I wish the “Eagle Service” tab was easier to find on the AU portal but the actual registration part was easy.” -Kelly Phares ’18

“I like it. I find it a lot easier, and I like how you can see it on a time table.” -Sofia Dishongh ’18

“I like that you can choose your sections and then it maps it out on a schedule so you can see if your classes overlap. Before you had to type everything in and you could never see it laid out which made it much harder.” -Carlynn Yoshina ’18 (Her Campus contributing writer)

“I like the new registration system because it allows me to pre imput the classes I want to potentially take. Then once registration comes around, I only need to click one button to register for all classes. In addtion, I like using the new course catalog. It is easier to find out how many sections there are for each topic. This definitely saves a lot of time.”-Francesca Woo ’18

“I like it, it’s much more straightforward than the old system. When I first used it I had to play around with adding different class sections to really get the hang of it, which was slightly frusturating when I was rushing to add classes. I love how it drafts a weekly schedule for you though! -Grey-Alexandra O’Reily ’17

“I liked the actual system because it made it much easier to register. I hated the way they randomized they way people got to register.”-Brian Blonder ’18

“I like the new process a lot! It’s very easy compared to the old registration process.”-Magdalena Dunmar ’19

It seems the new registration system has been a sucess for many students!
