Five Reasons to Get Excited for “Zoolander 2”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

On February 12, a movie that the collective popular media culture has waited years for is finally being released. That’s right, I’m talking about “Zoolander 2,” the sequel to the 2001 blockbuster hit that spawned countless hilarious lines and made fun of the modeling industry. Now the cast is back for a second run. Here are a few things we’re looking forward to:

1. The Return of “Blue Steel”

Yes, this is the iconic look that duckfacers around the world have tried to copy. Still, nothing beats the original, and it looks like it will be reprised by not only Derek Zoolander, but by the likes of Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus, taking the look to a new level.

2. Kristen Wiig is Involved

Looking at the picture above, it would be easy to be shocked that it’s Kristen Wiig, since the make-up and hair department on the film clearly outdid itself when it came to her. Lucky for us, it is Wiig, one of the funniest ladies in show business, and she is sure to keep the laughs coming as new villain Alexanya Atoz.

3. Mugatu is Back

Will Ferrell is a legend, and this role ranks in his top comedy performances for good reason. While he might be one of the most ridiculous villains in film, he’s certainly one of the most beloved, and his return will definitely add to the overall movie.

4. The Movie is Set in Rome

The Eternal City, one of the most beautiful locations in the world, is the backdrop to the reboot, and the filmmakers couldn’t have chosen a better setting. Prepare for over-the-top designer outfits and scenes in breathtaking churches, adding a little culture to the mix.

5. The Bromance is Still Strong

The Derek Zoolander/Hansel bromance, which was one of the most enjoyable aspects of the original film, seems to be alive and well in the sequel. Here’s hoping for more moments of sheer idiocy and maybe some double model looks.

No matter what aspect of the original “Zoolander” made you laugh, “Zoolander 2” is sure to find a way to make the orginial even better. Fingers crossed.
