8 Thoughts on Adele Coming Back Into Our Lives

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Adele just realeased her new single “Hello” off her third studio album 25. After four years of not hearing new Adele music, the world is not okay and the anticipation for the new album is real. There was months of speculation about who was helping Adele produce the album, when it would be released and whether or not we would get any more heartbreak anthems with Adele having found her happy ending with a fiancé and new baby boy, Angelo. Adele has said publicly that this will be a “makeup album” finding herself and reconnecting with her past. Adele has confirmed appearances on SNL, The Today Show and a BBC special where she will play the new music. So let’s remember why we love Adele shall we?

1. It has been four years since her album 21. FOUR years. Adele likes to keep her fans waiting; her debut album 19 was released in 2008 and her second studio album 21 was released three years later in 2011. The only new music we heard from Adele between 21 and now was “Skyfall,” the theme for the James Bond movie of the same name.

2. We have been listening to “Someone Like You” and “Chasing Pavements” on repeat for four years. Her timeless singles have been holding fans at bay, but “Hello” was just what we needed in the middle of fall.

3. Sia, Lana Del Rey, and Beyoncé have all dropped albums since 2011 so it was about time Adele made her comeback!

4. We will finally be graced with Adele’s lyrical genius. Adele commented on her writing process in a recent interview with Sirius XM: “I do it every album: I buy a new pad, sniff it ’cause smell is important and then I get a big, fat Sharpie and write my age on the front page,” she explained. “25 has five exclamation marks after it ’cause I was like, ‘How the f— did that happen?!’ 21 to 25.”

5. We will get hilarious interviews and GIF-worthy Adele moments again. From flipping off her ex during performances to trailing off into uncontrollable laughter, we are Adele and Adele is us.

6. She has a baby now! Remember when Beyoncé gave birth to everyone’s idol Blue Ivy? Well Beyoncé came back and made the greatest music of her career and put on the performances of her life (remember that VMAs medley?). It is time for Adele after Angelo – even though motherhood is not defining Adele, we cannot help but notice her voice is better than ever and her lyrics have us in our feelings as always. Music gold.

7. Do you know how many songs someone can write in four years? We will only get the best quality music. The tracklist for 25 has already been released, and we have eleven songs with titles like “When We Were Young,” “Million Years Ago,” and “Love in the Dark.” Excuse us now while we collect ourselves.

8. So. Many. Covers. Looking at you reality singing competitions. If you are going to cover an Adele song please do her justice. Strip it down, add a second orchestra, or go acoustic – do as you please, but do it well. Make it good enough that we see it on our Facebook newsfeed and share it.

So thank you Adele for coming back, we missed you
