The 5 Things You Need to Get Through Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Now that Thanksgiving is over, we all have to face the ugly reality of finals season. As the semester comes to a close, so does our mental capacity for work. Unfortunately, in just two weeks we need to all get it together in order to finish out the semester on a good note. The good thing is we are not alone in this, and there are a few things that can help alleviate a lot of the stress every college student is experiencing right now.

1. Coffee

I think almost every college student has an unhealthy addiction to caffeine. So my motto is, if you can’t beat that addiction you might as well embrace it. If the idea of dragging yourself to the library actually disgusts you, then tell yourself you can “treat yo self” to a coffee from Starbucks of your choosing. Not only will this make your library experience a little less painful, but you will also get that caffeine boost you need to get you through your study session.

 2. Sleep

While it may seem like a foreign concept to a lot of college students, sleep is actually a good thing. It may be easy to want to pull that all nighter, but in reality you are not doing yourself any favors by skipping out on sleep. If you really need to stay up, try taking a few hours to sleep, then set your alarm and wake up early to study again.

 3. Friends

This is such a stressful time, but luckily,  all of your friends are going through the same thing. Make sure to put some time aside to hang out with your support system. Go get food at your favorite place and just forget about work for a little bit and focus on enjoying their company. If you don’t mind studying in a group, get some of your friends to have a fun study session together so that you don’t feel so alone in your stress.

 4. Your Favorite Netflix Comedy

Whether it be The Office, 30 Rock, or Parks and Rec, there is nothing that alleviates stress more than 30 minutes of laughter.

 5.  Pictures of Dogs

If you are hitting that wall in the library and feel like you can’t be saved, it’s time to pull out the secret weapon: pictures of dogs. Open that extra tab on google and start scrolling through the thousands of cute dog pictures on the internet. You will thank me for this later.

Happy Finals Season!!!! See you on the other side of war.
