10 Ways to Wear Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

October is officially Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Breast Cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States. Since in 1985, Breast Cancer Awareness Month has promoted awareness and education about breast cancer, encourages donations towards research and reminds women to check themselves for early signs of the disease. Here are 10 fun and creative ways to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

1. Pink Bow

You don’t have to be a girly-girl to rock a pink hair bow! Both varsity and intramural sports teams often wear pink bows to show spirit and raise awareness for breast cancer. It’s a super easy way to incorporate pink. Talk to your coach about getting pink bows for your team for wear to their next game or practice. Or if you’re not on a sports team, a simple pink bow can be a very subtle accessory to jazz up your usual hairstyle.

2. Pink Nails

Pink nail polish is a super easy and artistic way to showcase your spirit. Check out Elle and Dish’s videos on YouTube for some awesome tips, tricks and ideas for nail designs.

3. Breast cancer T-shirts

Boscov’s offers a good selection of cute and creative T-shirts for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. However, in the end, it is the message that matters. You can easily make your own  inexpensive T-shirt with fabric markers and a plain T-shirt from your local craft store, or you can even decorate a plain tank or tee that you already own.

4. Pink Scarf

It’s finally that time of year again. The time for comfy sweaters, apple cider and indulging in any foods having to do with pumpkins (#PSL anyone?). Why don’t you take advantage of the fall ambience and show your spirit with a pretty pink scarf? Scarves are trendy this fall and there are many different ways you can wear them. Check out 25 Ways to Wear a Scarf in 4.5 Minutes.

5. Pink Bag

Functional and fashionable! You don’t have to look super over-the-top, like the Elle Woods from Legally Blonde type of girly, to sport a pink bag. Even if you don’t want to carry a pink purse, a simple Breast Cancer Awareness grocery tote or pink gym bag will get the message out there.

6. Pink Keychain

Or, if you want to be more subtle, you can attach a pink keychain to your bag.

7. Pink Water Bottle

Or use a pink water bottle.

8. Pink&PINK Yoga Pants

Of course, we can’t forget Victoria’s Secrets’ ever-loved yoga pants. Not only are yoga pants the world’s most comfortable yet cute type of pants (I’m sorry, but the Forever Lazy just looks silly), they are also a super cute way to show off your Pink (and PINK) spirit!

I’m sorry. The Forever Lazy may be comfortable, but it will make you resemble Ralphie in his bunny pajamas at the end of A Christmas Story way too much.

9. Bold Pink Lipstick

If you are bold enough to do it, nothing screams flirty like bright pink lipstick. Or, you can wear a lighter, more blush shade of pink for a more subtle look.

But don’t go over the top and try to use all pink makeup, or you’ll end up looking like this.

10. Pink Bracelet

And finally, wearing a pink bracelet is a simple yet classic way to spread awareness. Don’t have a pink bracelet? A pair of pink earrings, a necklace or even a pink ring will do just as well.

So have fun showing off your pink looks. If you can, make sure to donate to a breast cancer charity of your choice. And remember the wise words of Karen Smith…
