With suicide rates steady on the rise year after year, it is important to not only spread awareness about suicide but also to spread awareness for the support services that are available for those in need. ABC News reported that suicide rates have increased twenty-four percent over the past fifteen years according to a study done by the CDC. Here at UA, this increase has unfortunately reached us here at home. As college students, we are typically under constant pressure and stress about grades, relationships, future plans, and generally just our lives. It is very easy sometimes to lose hope or give up..completely. However, I believe, as college students many of us can rise above all the chaos and make it our duty to be there for each other. None of us should feel completely alone and hopeless. It is our job to help and seek help for others in need. Our Student Government Association helped take action towards this by developing a crisis text line open to students in need of someone to talk to while remaining anonymous. Other programs at The University of Alabama include counseling from the UA Counseling Center.
