1) People who walk in the bike lane.
When choosing to walk in either the street or on a sidewalk, it’s assumed people would pick sidewalk every time. And yet when there is a designated bike lane, people still decide to walk along the path of oncoming bikers, making the biker have to swerve awkwardly into traffic to get around them. It’s inconvenient, rude, and just plain dangerous. Walk on the sidewalk, guys.
2) The lack of bike racks.
You see them all over campus, but when you’re running late to class, the nearest one’s a block away. You’d think they could put some of your tuition towards installing some more conveniently located bike racks so you don’t have to hoof it across campus to your next class.
3) Cars turning right on red.
It’s like they’re trying to hit you. Don’t they know that bikes have the right of way??
4) Awkwardly carrying large packages.
Going to the Ferg to pick up a package and quickly realizing it’s too big to put in your basket or your bag is just the worst. Do you try and awkwardly balance it on your handlebars? Do you take the bus and then come back for your bike later? Do you waddle-walk your bike and try and carry your package with one arm? It’s just a mess.
5) People waiting for the bus at Gorgas.
Imagine people walking in the bike lane, except it’s a giant mass of freshmen standing completely across your path. Stand off to the side please, because one of these days, someone will not be paying attention and knock all of you down like a bunch of bowling pins.
6) Crosswalks.
Technically, you’re supposed to walk your bike across a crosswalk, but no one has time for that. Trying to start pedaling from a stopped position while simultaneously trying to get out of the flow of students crossing the street all while making it across before you get hit by a car should be considered a new Olympic sport.
