International Justice Mission

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Alabama chapter.

Name of organization: Alabama International Justice Mission

Organization type: Advocacy, awareness, fundraising, human rights

What is the objective of your organization? We are a group of dedicated students who aim to end modern day slavery and everyday violence against the poor by holding events to raise money and awareness for the efforts of the International Justice Mission.

What events do you plan to hold this semester/what is your next event? Our next major event is a whole week of activities aimed at ending modern-day slavery, which we call Justice Week. It will begin on April 10th and will include things like an interactive exhibit that displays the reality of violence the global poor face, a documentary highlighting the heartbreaking reality of human trafficking, and a 24-hour event called Stand for Freedom.

How can others get involved in your organization? We have regular meetings every other Wednesday at 5 in the Ferg room 3108, and these are open to anybody. Interested students can also get in touch with me, or check our website or social media for any upcoming event. All of our events are open to everyone!

What is your favorite part about your organization?

“Alabama IJM has allowed me to connect with other students working to see justice provided for the oppressed.  What I particularly love about this organization is how IJM has allowed me to make a tangible impact through awareness events that engage other students in discussions on how to proactively combat human rights abuses.” -Olivia Howell, Prayer Leader, Sophomore

“I love IJM because it provides me with an opportunity to be a voice for those who don’t have a voice even as a college student. Even though I don’t have money to donate to help different organizations in their fight against human trafficking, being a part of IJM allows me to strive to make a difference any way that I can, not just monetarily.” -Kayleigh Westbrook, Leadership Team Member, Freshman
