Caroline Prichard

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Alabama chapter.

Name: Caroline Prichard

Hometown: Coppell, TX

Major: International studies & Social work

Favorite book:  Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

Favorite place to study on campus: Gorgas Library (because of Java City’s Cinnamon roll lattes)

What are you involved in on campus? “UA Dance Marathon, Lobby Board & VPSA Cabinet in SGA, and philanthropy chair of my sorority. I was also an Avanti this past summer!”

What was it like being an Avanti? “It was a lot of fun, and a lot of work. I didn’t realize how many people I would meet- I’ve never been an extroverted person but I was literally around people 24/7 for the whole summer, which was a really good experience.”

Do you have any advice for girls looking to get involved on campus? “You have to start somewhere- there are a lot of resources to help you find a place to get plugged in initially, like the Source. Keep an ear out at the beginning of each semester when organizations are recruiting on campus- Get On Board Day is a great place to start. I would recommend looking into anything & everything that sounds interesting to you, and keep an open mind. Just because it doesn’t strictly apply to your major doesn’t mean it won’t be worthwhile experience, and might allow you to meet a whole new group of people.”

How has being in a sorority impacted your life? “Being an Alpha Omicron Pi has given me hundreds of incredible, hilarious, and intelligent sisters and a home on campus. During the day, if I’m not in class, I’m in the AOII house. I don’t know if I could do college being 600 miles away from home without that support!”

What is your favorite part about Alabama? “As students at Alabama, we have so many resources and opportunities to get the most out of college. I also love knowing people who have come here from all over the country!”

What is the coolest experience you’ve had at Alabama? “As an Avanti, we worked several University Days for perspective students. It was always cool to meet students and parents, walk around with them, and see the campus through the eyes of someone visiting for the first time. It really helped put into perspective for me how amazing it is to go to school here.”

What do you want to do once you graduate? “I want to get my Master’s in Social work, and hopefully travel as much as possible!”

Do you have any advice for girls on how to succeed in college? “Jump right in! Getting involved early on is how you meet people and figure out your strengths.”
