What: The Edinburgh Festival Fringe

When: 1st – 25th August 2014

Where: Many venues around the old and new towns in Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is a bit like marmite for the people of Edinburgh. We love to hate it. It causes massive traffic delays, congests Princes Street and it makes it near on impossible to get to work on time! However, every Edinburger secretly loves the opportunity to show off their city, visit shows, and lounge in outdoor bars on the warm summer nights. Plus, the festival provides ample summer job opportunities for us students!

Think of literally anything entertainment related and it’s probably on show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I’m talking weird stuff. There are dare-defying buskers littering the Royal Mile, market stalls selling goods from all over the world and hundreds of different shows from comedians to musicals. The best thing about the Edinburgh festival is that is frequented by some of the most famous faces in comedy and entertainment such as Sarah Millican, Bo Burnham, Ed Byrne and Jason Manford (to name a few!!). It is the largest arts festival in the world and attracts performers from every country! The best thing to do at the festival is spend your day chilling in the sun in one of the open air bars with some friends then head over to the Half Price Hut beside the galleries to get your hands on some half price tickets for that evening (there’s a secret scoop for you – don’t say Her Campus aren’t good to you!).

The Edinburgh festival is a great experience and definitely worth a visit! Just make sure you book accommodation early as all hotels book up pretty fast! Oh, and be nice to flyerers – they’re people too!
