The Do’s and Don’ts of DIY Fancy Dress

The Do’s and Don’ts of DIY Fancy Dress Students, LISTEN UP!

With Halloween just passed and Christmas parties around the corner, here’s a few tips on how to make your own fancy dress costumes with minimal effort and minimal cost.  Let’s give Amazon a run for its money.

DO some research  Pinterest is a gal’s best friend when it comes to DIY ANYTHING, and especially when it comes to DIY fancy dress. I can guarantee there will be someone out there who’s made a flower pot costume using just felt and staples, and posted about how to do so. And thanks to the internet, so can you.

DON’T over complicate  Stick with something simple, classic fancy dress ideas go a long way. Plus, making accessories is much simpler than a full costume. Because let’s be serious, who actually listened to their Home Ec. teacher on how to sew in a straight line?

DO be organized Leaving your costume to the last minute is always a recipe for disaster. The temptation to order parts for your costume on Amazon and pay for extra speedy delivery is hard to avoid, and hard on your pennies. Take time to plan what you’re going to do, and shop at places like Poundland, B&M and other discount shops. You’ll be surprised what you can find in the depths of Poundland on Union Street…

DON’T think sexy Yeah, you may not look the cutest in the bunch (believe me I’ve been there), but going for something comical is much more fun than being a sexy kitten for the third year in a row. Don’t be worried about what people think, what’s not to like about a homemade Olaf? Creativity is attractive y’all!
