This week HC sat down with one of our close friends and lawyer lasses Emma to hear all about her legal endeavours and love affair with wine and pasta.

Name: Emma Read

Age: 21

Hometown: Aberdeen

Degree: LLB Law Honours graduate and now studying the Diploma in Legal Practice!

Quick fire questions:

Wine or Pasta? So hard.. But wine edges it!

Films or TV series? TV series

Nights out or Nights in? Nights in

How do you like your steak? Rare

If you could live anywhere where would it be? NYC

Weapon of choice? Bare hand… (ooooh we wouldn’t want to mess with you Emma!)

HC: Hi Emma! You’re from Aberdeen. What made you stick around in the lovely Granite City for uni?

ER: Hello! It was mainly because of the degree programme here. I’d heard great things from friends who had already been here to study. However, I cannot lie… the lure of a homemade Sunday dinner every week when a student was also very tempting!

HC: Haha we totally get you – you can never beat a roast dinner! As an Aberdeen local,  is there one insider tip you would give to someone about the city?

ER: Definitely don’t miss what’s just outside of Aberdeen… There are so many amazing places on our doorstep from Stonehaven to Cruden Bay to Ballater. I highly recommend taking a trip out to Deeside, it’s such a beautiful part of the world which students normally never see!

HC: Great tips, we here at HC love a little trip to Stonehaven. Despite your love affair with the North East we hear you’ll be leaving Aberdeen after your Diploma – are you excited to be making the move to Edinburgh?

ER: I will really miss Aberdeen, but I cannot wait! It will be great to have a change of scene and there’s a good bunch of us from Aberdeen moving down together as well!

HC: Almost at the end of 5 years of uni (or should I not remind you of that!) is there anything you’d do differently if you were a Fresher again?

ER: I think just to give everything a fair chance. Also just to be myself from the get go! I feel like I’ve finally learnt this four years later!

HC:  Great advice Emma! In a parallel world if you could be anything other than a lawyer what would you be?

ER: A professional food taster or a newsreader! (Or both!)

HC: And after coming home from your ideal job, what would be your ideal evening?

ER: A good laugh with my girlies, most likely over a glass of wine and a bowl of pasta!

HC: Sounds like the perfect HC evening to us! Here at HC we’re constantly inspired by strong and successful ladies like yourself Emma – we’d love to know who your inspiration is?

ER: Easiest question so far! It has to be my Gran. She’s 92 but we speak as though she is my age which is unbelievable! She is also the strongest person I know and gives the best advice on everything!

HC: Finally, the biggie, where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I’m such a planner so I’d like to think I will still be in Edinburgh with a couple of years qualified experience under my belt! I’d love to travel and see the world, even if that means ending up somewhere as close as London!

Thanks so much for chatting to us Emma and we wish you every success (and all the rose wine in the future!) HCXO
