Campus Celeb: Mr Ross Comrie!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Aberdeen chapter.

This weeks Campus Celeb is the lovely ROSS COMRIE! A student of physics and geology and president of not one, but two groups on campus!

Age: 21

Spirit Animal: Lion (I put my excellent investigative skills to use here and found out that this is associated with personal strength, self confidence, courage and assertiveness!)

HC: First things first – Ross, you’re President of both the Childreach International Society and the Boxing club. Tell me, what’s your secret to fitting it all in?

RC: Its tricky, but I’ve mastered the art of doing 10 things at once and I’m continually checking my diary!

HC: Lets talk about the boxing club first, how often do you train and can you tell us a bit more about it?

RC: The club trains 5 (!!!) times a week, Wednesdays and Fridays are open sessions, everyone is welcome! Monday’s are for competitors only. We also have two sprint/cardio sessions a week for the most committed and hardcore members! We have 80 members, both male and female. For the past 14 years we have won the Scottish University trophy (WELL DONE AUBC!).

HC: Is it true you put on a show every year, with the 2015-2016 session show being in the Beach Ballroom?

RC: Yes! And we would love if all you HC girls would come and watch!

HC: So Ross, Childreach International, this is something all of us HC gals have heard about but, like a lot of the students out there we’re not really sure what you do?! Give us a quick overview of what you do and why we should all sign up!

RC: Childreach is a grassroots children’s charity who are all about participating in sustainable projects in 6 developing countries and the UK –  Tanzania, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Brazil and Morocco. There is a different focus in each country, as it is dependent on the primary deficiencies present. In India we focus on health and education whereas the UK projects tend to be based on children’s rights. This year there are 7 different trips you can get involved with..

·      Cycle round India

·      Climb Mount Everest

·      Climb Kilimanjaro

·      Trek the Great Wall of China

·      Machu Picchu

·      The Big Build

Last year Aberdeen’s part of the charity raised a massive 10% of the charity’s total income!

HC: That sounds fab! Now that we have that serious stuff out of the way, time for some quick fire questions!

Tell us your favourite…

·      Disney Princess: Mulan

·      Food: Halloumi

·      Bar: Bos’n

·      Grub panini: Chicken, chorizo and cheese

Just one final question, if you could give this years Freshers one piece of advice, what would it be?

RC: Put yourself out there! Join as many clubs and societies as possible and attend all the socials!

We wish Ross all the best of luck this year with both his charity work and boxing matches! HCXO.
