5 Reasons Why Aberdeen is a Better Place in the Sunshine

Without stating the obvious here, Aberdeen appears to be a whole new city when the sun is shining – our Granite City glitters, people wear bright colours and show a little skin, and everyone seems to be smiling…

The Beach

When the sun is shining the beach could almost pass to be somewhere in the South of France. Ok, maybe not quite… but really Aberdeen beach is G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S on a bright sunny day. To walk along with the fresh sea breeze blowing through your hair and the sun on your face and maybe if you’re lucky to let your feet feel the icy sea is spectacular – and not many people are lucky enough to live so close to the beach so we must make the most of it! Oh and don’t forget to stop by the Inversnecky Cafe and grab one of the best ice creams in the whole of Aberdeen!!

Belmont Street

This cute cobbled street (and all the wee streets leading off from it) comes to life in the sunshine. The plethora of bars, cafes, coffee shops and restaurants – most with additional outside seating – are perfect for a sunny day for lunching outside. With a buzzing atmosphere and lots to do, Belmont Street is a must when the sun comes out to play.

Hazelhead Park

Located in the West-end, the park is a quick car ride away (or bus journey), and is one you cannot miss. With beautifully maintained gardens, ponds and acres of land, and even a petting zoo, this park is the perfect Sunday afternoon picnic spot for a sunny day out.

Duthie Park

This park is located at the banks of the River Dee. This sweet place is just a short walk from town and most definitely worth a visit. With acres of land covered in lush botanical gardens and beautiful greenhouses – and not to mention plenty of park space – Duthie Park is a serene and lovely place. With families everywhere, the warm and picturesque environment provides a great escape from the busy city centre and student life and is particularly fabulous on a bright day!

The University Grounds

Now, saving the best for last…the sitting spots surrounding and within Old Aberdeen and New Kings is one of the most picturesque places to go when the sun is shining. Us students take it for granted as we pass by these building everyday but when you take a step back and truly absorb the architectural beauty of Kings in the sunshine – you realise the views are breath-taking. Whether stopping in between classes or having a lunch break, campus is an absolute stunner in the sun. A super peaceful spot, surrounded by jolly students and beautiful buildings – what more could you want on a sunny afternoon
