•   “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” Robert Frost

This quote by American poet Robert Frost is an important one to remember when in your first year of Uni. Yes, it’s important to do your best and work hard, but you don’t need to feel like it’s the end of the world if you mess up one test. There’s no need to stress about the small stuff and if there are big things that are worrying you, talk to someone about it!

•   “Treat yo self!” – Donna Meagle (Parks and Recreation)

Probably the most famous quote from the TV show Parks & Rec, this is often used as an excuse to buy anything and everything (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). When you start Uni there can be pressure to do well in your courses, join loads of societies, and have a thriving social life – as well as maybe working on top of all that. Take some time out to “treat yo self” and have a night in, eat some ice cream and watch your favourite films in your PJs and a facemask!

•   “If you retain nothing else, always remember the most important rule of beauty, which is: Who cares?”Tina Fey (Bossypants)

This quote by one of my favourite celebrities, (and the genius behind Mean Girls) Tina Fey, is a great rule to live by. If you think you look pretty and are feeling good in your own skin, then you are beautiful. Your opinion is the only one that matters so never let anyone ever tell you different!

•   Don’t pressure yourself. Don’t worry about what others think you should do or what the societal “norm” is. Do what moves you and makes you smile and the “good” will follow” – Misha Collins (Interview with originmagazine.com)

I know to “be yourself” is something you’re told time and again, but there’s a reason for that. It really is the best way to live and that applies to Uni too. You’ll probably never meet a more diverse group of people in your life and it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll find someone who shares an interest with you. Do what makes you happy, not what you think is expected of you and you’ll have a great time at uni!

•   “Kindness is always fashionable, and always welcome.” – Amelia Barr

Kindness is something we all need every now and then and sometimes we need to be reminded to be kind too. Always try and be kind to be people – even if you don’t know them that well. Kindness appeals to people and it makes making friends with people that much easier!
