Voting for Mr. Campus Freshman 2015 has ended. Congratulations to our winner, your Mr. Campus Freshman 2015, Carl Provenzano of UC Santa Barbara!

Name: Carl Provenzano
School:  UC Santa Barbara
Age: 18
Hometown: Boston, MA
Relationship Status: I’m a single mother. I have three jobs and two kids. I need this win.
Potential Major: Biochemistry
Career Ambition: To become a Plastic Surgeon

What is your favorite thing about UC Santa Barbara? The sun shines 300 days a year in Santa Barbara. The beach is a two-minute walk from anywhere on campus. But what I like most is that people are just happy here. It is easy to be successful both academically and socially.

What is your perfect first date? The perfect date would be with a man who understands that some women need time to dial in their feelings, since we are more emotional creatures and men are usually on a more visual and sexual innuendo level. I think a man should not be pushy on a date. Flirting is fine, yet not overboard, and he should be capable of showing a general interest in things that I’m personally interested in. For instance, if he is aware that I enjoy viewing the stars while walking on the beach, he will go the extra mile to arrange something so that we can do that together. Basically, he must show an interest in me in a way that isn’t sexual. If men could just slow down and let nature take its course, they will be overly delighted when IT does finally happen. I personally don’t like to feel like a sexual object to men. I like to be romanced and I like to feel like the man is more interested in me than for an evening in the bedroom.

Boxers or briefs? Neither. I like to breathe.

If you had a million dollars, what would you spend it on and why? I have always wanted to open my own fitness center and call it Bronze and Thighs Fitness. This wouldn’t be just any gym, LET ME TELL YOU. This gym would have a retractable sunroof and be open on any sunny day so members could get bronzed, while they get big. Of course, not all people can be exposed to the sun for too long, so one side of the gym would have a closed roof. People feel good after they exercise, and knowing that I could help with that would be rewarding. Either that, or I would want to hire my own personal sushi chef for the rest of my life.

Why should you be Mr. Campus Freshman 2015? I am a genuine guy who does not like to blend in day after day. I believe you only live once, so you might as well make the absolute best of life. I do as much as I possibly can to help kids on campus because when you feel good, others around you feel good and vice versa. It’s the small things that really matter. Giving someone even the slightest compliment such as, “you look sexy today” or just anything positive really makes a huge impact. Back in Boston, where the sun don’t shine, (on average the sun shines 95 days per year in MASS and Boston got voted the meanest and worst dressed city in the entire country last year- it’s atrocious, I know!) I always wore crazy, one of a kind things to brighten peoples day so to speak. Of course, people judge other people based on what they stand for and who they are. This is exactly why rumors spread like I can’t believe its not butter. It’s human nature to judge others, but not until you really get to know another person can you make a fair assessment about them. Everyone has been judged at some point in time. I certainly have been; more times than I even want to know. But the thing is, life is better if you don’t care about others opinions and live your life just being you.

Being in Santa Barbara for only several months now, I have already developed a reputation as the student who dresses in bright, ridiculous outfits, has more shoes than any girl, and makes that comment in class that everyone is thinking but no one will say. I don’t want to be the person kicking myself afterward for not speaking up. Everyone has their own individual style and I don’t make decisions that will allow me to be complimented or bring attention to myself, I do it because I want to do it. And I just don’t care what anyone thinks. This does not mean that I don’t still have my own problems and insecurities in life. I most certainly do, but don’t we all? I’m not perfect in any way. One problem that I have is that my life revolves around a lot of material wealth, simple possession I could easily be without. What’s the point of driving a nice car? What’s the point of wearing nice clothes? I mean really, what is the point of clothes? You just get in them to take them off eventually. But in a way, my clothes are a symbol of my own personality and I like to look unique. To me, everyday is a day to do something crazy or try something new and unusual. I am young, but I know the kind of person that I always want to be: an individual who makes the best of life. I came 3000 miles to Santa Barbara with high hopes of change, and it has more than fulfilled my expectations. Isla Vista is the promise land! I have never been happier in my entire life. I wake up each day with a beautiful view outside my window, a great outlook on life, and a huge debt of gratitude towards the guys in ATO, as well my family. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Thanks to them, I won Mr. Freshman UCSB and I would be honored to be the Nationwide HerCampus Mr. Freshman 2015. Please vote for me!
