Soup Swaps Are The Latest Party Trend On TikTok — Here’s How To Host Your Own

Fall is officially here, but the season is about more than just leaves changing colors and temperatures dropping. It’s that time of year to treat yourself to pumpkin-flavored snacks and apple cider, dust off your favorite fuzzy sweaters and socks, and curl up with your comfort shows by candlelight. And if you’re looking for a way to shake up your fall rituals this year, TikTok has come up with the perfect event: soup swaps. The cozy trend is all over the internet right now, and with fall just starting, there’s plenty of time for you to host your own.

The fundamentals of a soup swap are pretty straightforward: Have each of your friends make a pot of soup and bring it to the gathering to give everyone a taste. Encourage everyone to bring a different dish to have some variety, and be sure to make enough for everyone to enjoy during the exchange, as well as some extra for everyone to take their favorites home — and don’t forget the bread on the side!

The best part is you can make a gathering as simple or elaborate as you’d like, allowing it to be anything from a low-stakes night indoors during exam season to an organized “soup soiree.” If you choose to go all-out, you can deck out your kitchen with fall decor and candles, or cover the table with a large sheet of paper and write the names of soups next to their serving dishes to add a more handmade touch. You can even add other activities to your swap, like a fall-themed movie, PowerPoint, or pumpkin-painting night.

That being said, you honestly don’t have to do too much to make a soup swap special. Gathering all of your friends in a warm and comforting space to just talk and hang out over a warm homemade meal is magical and very fall-coded in it of itself.

So, send that message in your group chat, get to searching up those recipes, and put your own soup swap together before the season comes to an end.
