Why Is Izzy Darnell Transferring Colleges? She’s Leaving Bama

If you’ve ever scrolled past one of Izzy Darnell’s TikToks, you already know her signature greeting: “What’s up, fools!” But while that silly energy has long been part of Darnell’s brand, one major thing about her is about to change: Darnell is officially transferring from the University of Alabama.

Although it made perfect sense for Darnell to want to go to Bama after she graduated high school earlier in 2025 — after all, it’s where her big sister, Kylan Darnell, first went viral for her Bama Rush content. But Darnell didn’t necessarily want (or need) to follow in her sister’s footsteps. For starters, she was already TikTok-famous before even going to college (let’s not forget that viral video when she fell into the pool wearing her sister’s yellow gown). And once Darnell announced she was dropping out of sorority rush in August, fans started theorizing about her future at the school. In an Aug. 17 TikTok about her decision to drop out of rush, Darnell said, “I went in with the mindset that if they don’t want all of me, they aren’t getting any of me,” and noted she put Zeta Tau Alpha in her “bottom three” because “I want to be Izzy, I don’t want to be Kylan.” Darnell emphasized that Greek Life works for plenty of people, but she knew staying true to herself mattered more, which made it clear that the environment at Bama maybe wasn’t the best match for her.

Now, she’s taking it another step further. “[I’m] definitely transferring from Alabama,” Darnell said in a Dec. 3 interview with People. “Alabama is not the place for everybody and it doesn’t have to be; it’s not the place for me. So I will be transferring.”

This comes after a Sept. 16 interview, in which Darnell told People that she didn’t yet have concrete plans to leave, but admitted she was considering other options. At the time, she shared that her head had “been turned by a few schools” and that she was “just seeing if [she] would like to go there.” She also said at the time that she might stay at Bama for “one year at a time,” and wasn’t completely sure what the rest of her college experience would look like.

Fans have already started guessing about where Darnell might end up next. In the comments of her Dec. 3 TikTok, some users guessed she could be heading to the University of Miami, a hub for college influencers, while others wondered if she might transfer to Ohio State or even Marshall University, where one of her friends from high school goes. As of now, Darnell confirmed to People she already knows where she is going to college next, but she is not “ready for everybody else to [know].”
