If you went to any sort of Halloween function this year where people were wearing costumes, you probably saw many people dressed up like the Louvre robbers. The Oct. 19 case of Paris’s Louvre museum robbery of $101 million worth of French crown jewels has dominated pop culture, with many on social media romanticizing the heist. And the infatuation with the crime only intensified after reports came out that suspects were identified.
Since then, mugshots of conventionally attractive (read: hot) men have been shared in relation to the news about the suspects. Because of this, many believed the men in the photos to be the actual heist suspects. In the two weeks that have followed, the internet has been completely obsessed with romanticizing the heist, which was only intensified when there was an instagram post made saying that the suspects were apprehended. On one mega-viral post, actor and activist Jameela Jamil wrote, “It is so French of them to both be this hot.”
But, um… I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the men in these mugshots are not actually the real Louvre heist suspects. Here is everything we know about the mugshots, and who the actual suspects are.Â
Who Are the Men in the Viral Louvre heist Mugshots?
A Google reverse image search shows one of the photos comes from a decade-old Buzzfeed roundup of “mugshots of the hottest guys ever arrested,” and the other, is featured in a 2014 Gossip On This article titled “Felon Crush Friday.”
Who are the Actual Louvre heist suspects?
If you’re wondering who actually robbed the Louvre, if not these attractive guys in the photos, you certainly aren’t the only one. As of now, no one has been publicly named in the investigation. According to CNN, there are currently four suspects in custody. Their identities have not been revealed, but according to French police, they are petty criminals, with no link to organized crime. Only if or when their identities are released may the public know if they are at all attractive. Until then, I will be watching Louvre heist edits set to “Robbers” by The 1975 on TikTok.
