Amidst several Hollywood actresses coming forward about their experiences of sexual harassment from producer Harvey Weinstein, Golden Globe-winning actress Uma Thurman has revealed that she’s “waiting to feel less angry” before discussing her opinions and own experiences of Weinstein. Entertainment Weekly reports that Thurman originally spoke to Access Hollywood about the scandal in October while promoting her Broadway play The Parisian Woman. However, her statement has now gained viral attention after Huff Post contributor Yashar Ali shared video of it on Twitter.

“I think it’s commendable,” Thurman said of her peers speaking out about Weinstein’s inappropriate behavior. “I don’t have a tidy soundbite for you because I have learned I am not a child, and I have learned that, when I’ve spoken in anger, I usually regret the way I express myself. So I’ve been waiting to feel less angry. And when I’m ready, I’ll say what I have to say.”
Thurman is visibly firm yet emotionally affected in her explanation, which speaks wonders about how deeply sexual abuse has impacted women in the film industry. She has worked with Weinstein on several films, including Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction, suggesting that she has great insight into the widely reported scandals about the producing mogul. Police in New York, L.A., Beverly Hills, and the U.K. are currently investigating sexual assault accusations made against Weinstein.
Twitter has applauded Thurman for her chilling response to the reports, pointing out that she has personified many women’s feelings about such news only being taken seriously now.

Of course, there are still people who believe that her response was not enough. Italian actress Asia Argento, who accused Weinstein of sexual assault, addressed the video clip on Twitter, saying to Thurman, “We need your strong voice, it truly is commanding.”
Regardless of people’s reactions to Thurman’s statement, it’s clear that the actress has an important story to share whenever she feels prepared.
