Tayvis Finally Revealed Their Dog’s Name & Swifties Think It’s An Easter Egg

At long last, Swifties are finally getting what they’ve been waiting months for. No, I’m not talking about photos from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, but rather another key piece of intel about the couple: the debut of the newlyweds’ dog, Wendy. That’s right, the famous cat mom is now a dog parent, too — and it seems like the pup’s name may have a special connection to Swift.

Fans have been wondering about Swift and Kelce’s dog, a fluffy white Samoyed, for quite some time. Wendy was originally spotted out and about with the couple all the way back in March, but it wasn’t until now that they’ve gone public with her — and naturally, they did so in a big way: She co-starred alongside Kelce in a new campaign for Tommy Hilfiger.

Following the launch of the campaign, Kelce opened up even more about his and Swift’s dog on the Sept. 2 season premiere of his New Heights podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce. In fact, Jason was the first one to actually say Wendy’s name. “I didn’t know that Wendy was out of the bag,” Jason said on the episode, referring to the Hilfiger campaign as well as the couple’s privacy around their pup thus far. Kelce confirmed, “She is officially a picture dog.”

Kelce went on to explain that he and Swift had a conversation about publicly debuting Wendy in the ad campaign, and she was “all for it.” He also confirmed they’ve had Wendy for even longer than fans have been catching glimpses of her. “Little ‘ol Wendy’s a little over a year old now,” he said. “We’ve had her for quite a while. Trying to keep it under wraps.”

Knowing Swift’s penchant for Easter eggs and invisible strings, the announcement of her and Kelce’s dog’s name immediately had Swifties searching through their mental archives for any connection she may have to the name Wendy. And, it turns out, there’s more than one — and they’re both from beloved Swift songs. First, there’s the mention of the name Wendy in “Cardigan,” the lead single from Folklore. In the song, Swift sings about ending a romantic relationship, comparing it to Peter Pan: “Tried to change the ending / Peter losing Wendy.” The same theme came up again in her song “Peter” from The Tortured Poets Department, which is about a romantic love interest who refuses to grow up — sung from the point of view of, you guessed it — Wendy from Peter Pan.

All in all, it sounds like Swift connects deeply to the story of Peter Pan, and most of all, Wendy. If that’s any indication of Swift’s bond with her pup of the same name, it’s very possible the singer has herself a soul dog. That is, if Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button allow it.
