Tate McRae’s “Housewife” Music Video Has Fans Theorizing About Her New Album Name

A new Tate McRae era is here. On Oct. 16, the pop star released a brand new song, “Housewife,” and corresponding music video, and fans (myself included) are unwell. The song is seriously catchy, and while fans are excited about the sound, they’re also excited about potential Easter eggs in the music video. Specifically, fans think McRae might’ve dropped a hint about her new album name in the video.

Tate has been pretty busy: Between dropping her first ever perfume, Tate 01, to appearing in W Magazine and going on The Tonight Show, she also dropped the brand new song and video. The singer revealed the name of her newest single, “Housewife,” on Oct. 7, and excited fans immediately began trying to guess the concepts of the new era.

With visuals from the south of France setting the scene, this is one of McRae’s most elegant videos yet. And if you’ve watched it, you’re probably wondering where the name of McRae’s next album is in there. “We do Easter eggs all the time, and my fans… get none of them,” McRae told Jimmy Fallon during her appearance on Oct. 7. “They never get the most obvious Easter eggs.”

Hopefully on this go-around, us fans can prove her wrong. Dedicated fans have been scouring the video hoping to find clues to any other important things for this era, and so far, there are some pretty interesting theories.

Lolla Set & “For All Eternity”

Before we do a massive deep dive into the “Housewife” theories, let’s take a look back at when McRae originally started teasing a new era: during her Osheaga and Lollapalooza sets.

There was an interlude during both sets with visuals that reminded fans a lot of Ursula’s contract with Ariel in The Little Mermaid. In the visual, McRae signs her name under the binding phrase, “For All Eternity.” The document also includes a lot of interesting phrases and verbiage that some fans think is the tracklist for the upcoming album.

Tati

If you’re a Tate McRae fan, you know that she has an alter ego: Tatiana. Most dedicated fans would argue that her first two albums, i used to think i could fly and think later were written by Tate, and so close to what was written by Tatiana. Now, a new alias is in the mix: Tati. In the video, Tate spends a lot of time on a yacht, and “Tati” appears on the back of the boat. Fans think it could be the new album name.

Marriage Material

In the video, there was an interesting magazine cover displayed during a fight between McRae and her love interest, with the title of said article being, “Marriage Material.” It looks like a gossip magazine, and McRae moves to toss the magazine in the pool. It took some finding, but dedicated fans found the article and posted it online. She’s also seen reading the book La Vagabonde by Colette, which is a 1910 novel about a woman who chooses her career over society’s expectations. Could either be the title of the album?

It’s amazing to see a woman celebrating her independence and success in her career, and that’s exactly what McRae does in this song. She’s also performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Sunday, Oct. 18 along with Megan Moroney and Megan Thee Stallion, so hopefully, fans will get to see McRae perform the song live for the first time. I can’t wait to see where she takes this era next.
