ICYMI, Tate McRae is heavily teasing what fans think is her new era. And if that’s true, we’re in for a McRae golden age — literally. McRae has been posting Easter eggs for her new era for months, dating back all the way to the 2026 Met Gala, where she wore a custom gold dress. But her most recent sets at Osheaga and Lollapalooza have fans fully convinced something new is coming.
On July 26, McRae began to tease the end of her So Close To What era by previewing a new aesthetic. On Instagram, McRae posted a four-photo collage of herself with bright minimalist lighting (shying away from her sporty, bold Y2K look), captioning it “Montreal. Chicago. See u soon.” One user commented, “something in the wind tells me the font might mean something,” and another user said, “new font = new era.”
Also, in a July 26 TikTok, McRae shared a video featuring a glowy, playful, and nostalgic recreation of Disney Channel bumpers, with the caption “Hi, I’m Tate McRae, and ur watching Disney Channel.” One commented, “oh im shaking TM4 is coming,” which can mean we are not only getting a new era but new music as well.
After sending fans into a frenzy, McRae took things further by teasing her new era on-stage. At Osheaga (Aug. 1), in Montreal, Canada, she premiered new, dramatic visuals that featured her swimming in a pool of gold. McRae also performed with gold accessories and a shining, gold microphone — a contrast from her minimalistic outfit. The Osheaga set ended with her literally going into a tub filled with gold paint and coming out drenched in it. Coincidence? I think not.
Then, at Lollapalooza (Aug .2), in Chicago, McRae did it again with another stunning performance where she teased a new unreleased song called “Do You Love Me,” accompanied by more new visuals. At the end of the set, McRae dipped herself in gold as “Sports Car” played in the background.
And, of course, it had fans speculating even more about a new era for the popstar.
I’m excited for McRae’s new era, her new music, and all the things to come from it. Since there have been no official announcements about a fourth album flooding everybody’s FYP page, I guess for now it’s a waiting game. But be on the lookout; you never know what McRae might do next!
