These days it can be hard to find a horror film with a good concept, a good script and good acting, but the Korean film industry has more than proved itself with several films in recent years, including the award-winning Parasite and critical and commercial hit Train to Busan. Get ready to dive into some of your new favorites, because Rakuten Viki, the largest streaming service for Asian content, is hosting free watch parties for two Korean horror films in preparation of Halloween.
On Wednesday, October 28th at 7pm PST, you can join to view The Wailing, a film following a policeman’s investigation after villagers begin to report sightings of a flesh-eating, red-eyed demon in the remote town of Gokseong. All you have to do is click on the title’s icon under the Watch Party banner on the homepage!
Then, log back on on Halloween night at 7pm PST to see Rampant, a thriller centering on the spread of a zombie plague. Zombies on Halloween? It might be a cliché, but that doesn’t mean it’s not the perfect combo to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve (even if no one actually says that these days). Whether you’re watching by yourself or with friends, Rakuten Viki is also including a live-stream watch party chat, so you can send as many ‘scared’ emojis as you can possibly fit in the text box and share in each other’s fear.
And, if you still haven’t fulfilled that horror-movie craving, Rakuten Viki is currently offering Spooki Viki, a detailed collection of over 40 scary movies. Many are available to watch for free with ads, but just like NBC’s Peacock, you can unlock the full catalogue for a monthly $4.99 subscription, or upgrade to ad-free for $9.99. With titles like Tell Me What You Saw, Blood, Children of Nobody, The Fiery Priest, I Hear Your Voice and The Living Dead, I know you horror fans are already salivating for some buttery popcorn to pair perfectly with every movie on this list!
Happy Hallo – or perhaps, Horror – ween!
