Peacock, NBC’s new streaming platform, is available now to download to your phone, tablet or Apple or Google powered devices (and Roku in the coming weeks), after making a quiet launch earlier this summer. The new service offers countless television shows and movies to its users, depending on the level of service you choose to subscribe to. That means there’s no need to pull out your wallet just yet; to gain basic access, you only need to provide your email (so students on a budget everywhere can rejoice).
Older shows like Psyche, Downton Abbey, 30 Rock, and Suits are all available to stream free, as are some newer shows, like Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Superstore, on the other hand, requires a premium subscription.
And yes – don’t worry – Parks and Rec is available for free!
The Office and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, however, are currently unavailable at all subscription levels. Time reports The Office will depart Netflix by the end of the year (and Decider reports that Parks and Rec is set to leave on October 1), but there doesn’t seem to be any official word on Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s future with Hulu yet. Chances are licensing agreements for the two shows mean that once they leave their current hosts, they’ll be available on Peacock.
All of the above (The Office and B99 currently aside) – the free offerings as well as premium content, which can be unlocked for $4.99 a month (or $49.99 annually) – stream with ads. For access to the full catalog plus ad removal, you can upgrade to the premium plus subscription for $9.99 a month (or $79.99 annually).
But if you happen to have a cable plan with Xfinity or Cox, you most likely qualify for Peacock Premium without having to shell out the extra cash. Peacock Premium also offers a seven day free trial, so if you can’t score it for free you can see if it fits your streaming needs. Cozy up with your friends and set in for a night full of binge-worthy content, because Peacock is here to make quarantine a little more entertaining.
